Paputzis Cc
69 4th Ave
Paputzis is an established eatery in the heart of Linden, Johannesburg. It has a lovely setting and an appealing menu, two of the things which contribute to its reputation and increase the number of faithful customers who return for coffees and lunches.
The coffee shop is a labour of love, opened in 1997 by Ria Slabber. Since then her hands-on approach has ensured that the physical space has blossomed and that patrons feel welcomed and happy when dining there.
The Argentinian
Bakery & Coffee Shop
Cnr 4th Ave & 7th Str
The Argentinean has bags of ambience and history behind it. Its really is like the old corner café that you used to love frequenting. Baking is done on the premises and I can attest to the quality of the cappuccino (sublime!) It does what it does brilliantly : simple, honest food and baked goods with a 'no mess, no fuss' mentality. But I love them for being totally honest about their offerings.
The Whippet
Cnr 4th Ave & 7th Str
Very unassuming from the outside but once you walk through the front door you enter a beautifully decorated restaurant with a very warm atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly and the coffee is to die for. I ordered a steak salad which was amazing. The steak was done to perfection. Great wine menu as well! The only fault in my opinion is that the music is so soft that for a while I thought there was none. Definitely give The Whippet a try for a lazy Sunday breakfast or a laid back lunch.
The Cheese Cafe
Corner 3rd Ave & 7th Street
This is my favourite shop to stop for cheese, specifically their creamy Gorgonzola!! The food is delicious, very reasonably priced and the service is friendly. This is the type of place where they recognise you when you walk in.
My other favourite thing about lunch here is that you can bring your own wine!! Can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon than with a bottle of La Motte and a cheese board.
Crafters and Cravings
65 4th Avenue
Owners Mimi & her daughter Karin are always ready with a smile and a little chat. They have given this little shop an absolutely homely feel - almost like a farmhouse kitchen-feel. When you walk in the door, you smell spices and home-cooked food! The shelves are filled with delicious home-baked rusks, cookies, savory snacks and sweet delights! The fridge has a mouthwatering selection of cakes, tarts and 'meals to heat'. The harvest table is an absolute delight! But not every day the same selection! From Monday to Saturday, 11h00 onwards, a fabulous selection of food awaits you ...
